Profanity

Profanity is a word or sentence that many people do not like hearing. But it does not bother some people and they use it themselves. Profanity is used by adults and some older children. Some people use profanity to show that they have strong feelings. Sometimes people use profanity to be funny. Profanity does not always mean these things, and the people who use it do not always mean to make anybody feel bad.

Common examples of profanity:

Fuck! - An exclamation which means distress or suprise, usually in a negative way. It is also used randomly in sentences by some people. To fuck is a verb meaning to have sexual intercourse.

Shit - As a noun it refers to human excrement (feces, poop). As an exclamation it is similar to "fuck". As a noun (e.g in the phrase 'that's good shit') it can be used to refer to any object, although it is usually used in reference to drugs or music.

Damn - Used to show disappointment or suprise. It is more socially acceptable (not as bad as) "fuck" or "shit".
