God

In some religions, a god is believed to be a powerful spirit. A female god may be called a goddess. God with the capital "G" is also the word used for the being that some religions believe created the Universe.

Many ancient religions and the modern religion of Hinduism believe in many gods and goddesses.

Some famous gods and goddesses of different religions are:

• From the ancient Greek religion: Zeus, Apollo, Athena, Ares, Aphrodite

• From the ancient Roman religion: Jupiter, Mars, Venus

• From Hinduism: Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Krishna, Durga, Ganesh

Some religions believe that there is only one god, although there may also be angels, devils, or other spirits.

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam believe this. Muslimss say that the name of God is Allah.

Christians believe that God came to Earth in the form of the man Jesus. Jewss and Muslimss do not believe this.

People who don't believe that any god exists are called atheists. People who aren't sure if god really exists (or don't care) are called agnostics.
