Engineering

Engineering is the application of science to practical stuff. Whereas science is concerned about understanding why things are, engineering is concerned about making science serve the needs of humanity. People who study engineering are called engineers.

Engineering is a big discipline, and incorporates many sub-disciplines. For example:

• Building a bridge would be a civil engineering discipline.
• Being able to use a lightbulb in your home would be an electrical engineering discipline.
• Designing and building a car would be a mechanical engineering discipline.
• Designing reliable software would be a software engineering discipline.
• There are many more examples!
