Yaroslav I the Wise

Yaroslav I the Wise (Old Norse : Jarisleif) (978-1054) was thrice prince of Novgorod and Kyiv, uniting the two principalities for a time under his rule.

In 1010 he has founded the city of Yaroslavl (named after him).

The son of Vladimir the Great of Kyiv and the nun Ragnilda of Polotsk, Yaroslav married Anna, Ingigerd Olofsdotter, daughter of king Olaf Skötkonung of Sweden and later to widowed Astrid Olofsdotter of Sweden, another daughter of Olof Skötkonung.

He had three daughters and five sons, only Anastasia being Astrid's daughter.

Sons:

Yaroslav's granddaughter, his son Vsevolod's daughter named Eupraxia, was married to Henry III, Holy Roman Emperor.
