Womyn

Womyn is a term used by many radical feminists to take the "man" out of the word woman. Similar in spirit is the less-used term herstory in place of history and the even less-often used huwomynity to replace humanity. Similarly, womyn's work becomes womynufacture instead of manufacture.

Some point to these terms, especially the lesser-used ones, as an example of political correctness run amok and of so-called "anti-male Gender bigots. Those who promote them, on the other hand, argue that language shapes perceptions and ideas about gender and gender roles, and in its current form does not greatly value women. Thus, some feminists see these sorts of words as the beginnings of a movement to correct these inherent biases in language.
