Wolhynian Voivodship

Wolhynian Voivodship (województwo wołyńskie), capital Lutsk, was an administrative unit of the Second Polish Republic (1921--1939).

Major cities (in Polish spelling): Dubno, Kowel, Krzemeniec, Ostróg, Równe, Sarny, Włodzimierz.

Population: the majority were Ukrainians, with a 15% minority of Poles and Jews. German and Czech settlers also arrived in the 19th century. The religion practiced in the area was primarily Eastern Orthodox Christian. There were also Roman and Byzantine Rite Catholicss as well as adherents of Judiasm and a few Tatars of the Islamic faith.
