White Army
The White Army was a loose confederation of counter-revolutionary forces ( "White Russians) who fought against the Bolshevik Red Army and the third-force Green Army in the Russian Civil War from 1918 to 1921. The officer core of the army, the White Guard, upheld monarchist ideals.
The White Army drew support from representatives of many other political movements: democrats, social revolutionaries, and others who opposed the Russian Revolution. The rank-and-file troops included both active opponents of the Bolsheviks (many cossacks, for example), and enlisted apolitical peasants. The White Army was at times assisted by the Western Allies.
