Weapon X

In the Marvel Comics universe, Weapon X has been the name of several people, as well as a clandestine project.

The Weapon X Project was designed to turn mutants into weapons. Unfortunately, most of their subjects died from massive physical trauma as the last phase of the project, bonding adamantium to the bones, was carried out. The mutant superhero Wolverine survived the project, but destroyed the facility in a berserker rage. He also used that name in the alternate universe called the Age of Apocalypse. The project also produced the savage Sabretooth, and treated the mercenary Deadpool's cancer.

Garrison Kane was the second Weapon X.

Events in the series New X-Men revealed that the project was actually called Weapon Plus, and that the X was the Roman numeral 10. It was also inferred that Weapon I was Captain America.

Weapon X is also the name of an ongoing series for Marvel Comics. The main characters include Sabretooth, Marrow, Sauron, Garrison Kane, Aurora, Wildchild, Madison Jeffries (formerly the Alpha Flight member Box), Mesmero, Washout (now deceased), Brent Jackson, and Agent Zero. The group was originally formed by The Director to hunt down other mutants and either recruit them for his team or send them to Neverland (a secret mutant concentration camp). This original group was infiltrated and defeated by the Mutant Underground (led by Cable) and The Director was presumed killed in the conflict. Weapon X now seems to be led by Brent Jackson and has actively recruited Chamber (not knowing that he is infiltrating the group for Wolverine and the X-Men) and seems to have a different goal than before.
