The watt (symbol: W) is the SI derived unit for power. It is equivalent to 1 joule per second (1 J/s), or in electrical units, 1 volt-ampere (1 V · A).

Equations : W = J·s-1 = N·m·s-1 = kg·m2·s-3

The electric unit of watt was named after James Watt for his contributions to the development of the steam engine. The Second Congress British Association for the Advancement of Science committees adopted, in 1889, the watt.
