Waldo
A waldo is a remote manipulator, named after a character in a short story by Robert Heinlein published in 1950 in Waldo and Magic Inc originally published in Astounding Magazine in 1940.In the story, a crippled genius lives in an orbital habitat and works earthside via remote manipulators he developed.
Modern waldos may have direct mechanical linkages or be teleoperated as the originals in the story were.
There was a town in New Mexico called Waldo, just west of Cerrillos; Only traces of the town remain.
