The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is the governing body of football on the continent of Europe founded in Basel, Switzerland on June 15, 1954. It is one of six continental confederations of world football's governing body FIFA.

In May of 1955 the Inter-Cities' Fairs Cup (the forerunner of today's UEFA Cup) was founded and a new European competition for senior national representative teams, the European Nations' Cup, began in 1958.
