Tom Mix
Thomas E. Mix (January 6, 1880 - October 11, 1940) was an actor, the star of many early Western movies. He made a reported 336 films between 1908 and 1935, all but 9 of them silent features.Mix was born in Mix Run, Pennsylvania. His parents named him Thomas Hezikiah Mix, but he listed it to Thomas E. Mix when he enlisted in the Army in April 1898. He served in a heavy artillery unit during the Spanish-American War. After re-enlisting in 1901, he failed to return to duty after a 1902 furlough but was never court martialed or, apparently, even discharged.
After working a variety of odd jobs in the Oklahoma Territory, Mix began a career in the movies that lasted 26 years and made him $6,000,000. His first movie was released in 1909, his last in 1935.
Mix married five times and had two children. He died in an car accident in Florence, Arizona.
There is a Tom Mix museum in Dewey, Oklahoma.
