Title
A title is a prefix or postfix added to a person's name to signify either veneration, an official position or a professional or academic qualification. (In the context of property law, title refers to ownership or documents of ownership; see title (property).)

Titles conventionally appended to persons' names in social life. Some professional titles are used in social life, such as Rev. or Dr. (in the case of medical doctors); others usually are not (such as Dr. in the case of a Ph.D.)
