The Silver Chair

The Silver Chair is the fourth published book in The Chronicles of Narnia fantasy series by C.S. Lewis.

In this book, Eustace, who was introduced as a character in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, returns to Narnia with his friend Jill Pole. They, along with a Marshwiggle named Puddleglum, are sent on a quest to save a prince who has been bound by an evil magic. The prince happens to be the son of King Caspian (formerly Prince Caspian), who is now an old man. The prince has been taken captive by an enchantress reminiscent of the witch in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and needs to be brought back to inherit the throne.

In this volume Lewis deals with such topics as temptation and guidance. Again it is to be stressed that his pedagogic intent is secondary to his main aim of creating a good story. One of '\'The Silver Chair'''s most memorable scenes has a mental struggle between the enchantress and Puddleglum concerning the true nature of reality. One is reminded of The Matrix, the science fiction movie which also concerns itself with reality as illusion.
