The Poseidon Adventure
The Poseidon Adventure was a 1972 adventure movie based on a novel by Paul Gallico and directed by Irwin Allen and Ronald Neame. It stars Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Roddy McDowall, Shelley Winters, Red Buttons, Carol Lynley, Stella Stevens, Jack Albertson and Pamela Sue Martin.The movie was nominated for nine Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actress for Shelley Winters. It won the award for Best Song for The Morning After which also became a hit single for Maureen McGovern.
The success of this film led to other all-star disaster films in the seventies, such as The Towering Inferno (1973) and Earthquake'' (1974).
Plot
On her last voyage, the passanger ship S.S. Poseidon is hit by a tsunami and capsizes. Frank Scott (Hackman), a disillusioned reverend, leads a small group of people through the sinking ship to safety.
