The Models
The Models were a band from Melbourne, Australia, formed in 1979 and splitting in 1987.Their first album ABCDEFG (alphabravocharliedeltaechofoxtrotgolf) was well received by audiences on the live pub circuit but commercially not a hit. Cut Lunch their follow-up was the same. In response, Sean Kelly's compositions drove them to a hybrid of alternative meets commercial.
When James Freud (real name Colin McClinchey) joined the band they created the critically acclaimed album The Pleasure of Your Company, which failed to do well in sales. At this point the band reassessed themselves and went to a more radio friendly format.
Andrew Duffield (a major influence on the band's sound) departed and was replaced by Roger Mason on keyboards - Roger has done movie sound tracks for various projects including ABC's MDA. The band released their most successful work with the singles Out of Mind, Out of Sight and the James Freud tune Barbados, off the album Out of Mind, Out of Sight. Their follow-up album, Media, was less successful. The Models featured on the Australian Made Tour of 1986 with INXS and Jimmy Barnes.
