The Getaway
After the succes of the grand theft auto-series, a lot of producers had to make a similar game. SCEE was one of them and created the getaway, a thrilling driving/shooting game in the heart of London. You play the game with Mark Hammond, a former gang member, who decided to quit the gangster scene and settle down with his wife Susie. On a certain day he wakes up and sees his former gang killing his wife and kidnapping his son. He is now under control of the gang leader, charlie Jolson.
The game lets you drive with about forty existing vehicles, (saab, renault, citroen, mercedes, lotus, nissan, lexus, mazda,...) and takes you from one side to the other of a fotorealistic copie of London. The number of weapons is a bit on the low side, you can shoot a hand-gun(2), a kalashnikov, a shotgun and a MP-5(2).
When you finished the story with Mark, you can play it again with an other character: Frank Carter, a cop. You now see the story through his eyes. After having finished the game completely, you can select the option: roaming around, which gives you the possiblity to drive around free in London.
The music is basic: tunes that help creating a typical atmosphere: while the lelvels are getting more exited, the music changes as well. The graphics are brilliant. The cars are realistic and have a nice damage-model.
Personal oppinion:
It's a nice change after the arcade blockbuster gta, but you won't play it as long as you have played gta. Fun aspects: cars, realistic graphics, black humor, copie of london, difficulty level Bad aspects: framerate is to low at certain moments, low replay value, no BMW in european version. My advise: wait for san andreas or driv3r
