The Entertainer

  1. The Entertainer is a 1960 film which tells the story of a failing stage performer who tries to keep his career going even as his personal life falls apart. It stars Laurence Olivier, Brenda De Banzie, Roger Livesey, Joan Plowright, Alan Bates, Daniel Massey and Albert Finney.

    The movie was adapted by Nigel Kneale and John Osborne from the play by Osborne. It was directed by Tony Richardson.

    It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Laurence Olivier).


  2. The Entertainer is also the name of a piano rag by Scott Joplin which was later used as the theme music for the 1973 motion picture, The Sting. The music was adapted for the film by Marvin Hamlisch.
