The Black Cat

"The Black Cat" is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It is a study of the psychology of guilt, often paired in analysis with Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart". In both, a murderer's house is taken over by a spirit that drives him to confess his crime. In "The Black Cat", the living cat is entombed with the corpse of his victim. The story is in the public domain and can be found in the Project Gutenberg eBook The Works of Edgar Allan Poe, Volume 2.
