The BFG

Sponsorship the way you would do it
The BFG is a children's book by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake, first published in 1982. It is about an orphan girl called Sophie (thought to have been inspired by Dahl's granddaughter Sophie Dahl) who finds herself in a land full of giants.

The BFG ("Big Friendly Giant") himself doesn't eat children. Sophie becomes the BFG's friend and they work to rid the world of the nasty human-eating giants.

The BFG is also mentioned in Dahl's earlier children's book Danny the Champion of the World, in which he features in a bed-time story told to the protagonist by his father.

The acronym BFG is also used to refer to a series of fictional weapons used in first-person shooter computer games. See BFG9000, BFG10K.
