The Awful Truth is a 1937 romantic comedy film. The plot concerns the machinations of a soon-to-be-divorced couple (Irene Dunne and Cary Grant), who go to great lengths to try to ruin each other's romantic escapades. It also stars Ralph Bellamy.

The film was written by Sidney Buchman (uncredited) and Viña Delmar, from the play by Arthur Richman. It was directed by Leo McCarey.

The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. McCarey won for Best Director

The film has also been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

The Awful Truth is also the name of a satirical television show, hosted by Michael Moore. The show emulated newsmagazine shows by producing documentaries, but the format of the program diverged by presenting each documentary in front of a "live" audience. The Awful Truth focused on exposing problems in American government, business, and society, while bringing up interesting—if somewhat outlandish—solutions to those problems.
The Awful Truth is also the name of a popular gossip column written by Ted Casablanca and published at E! Online.
