Tameside is a metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester in the north west of England. It lies 7 miles east of Manchester and consists of nine towns which were brought together in 1974. It borders onto the county of Derbyshire, and the metropolitan boroughs of Oldham, Stockport and Manchester. It is named for the River Tame, which runs through it.
