Strand, Norway
The municipality Strand in the county of Rogaland, Norway, has 10,188 inhabitants as of January 1, 2002.To the north, FiskÃÂÃÂ¥ is the main centre laying on the sea side in a agricultural area. Producing fruit, vegetables and diary products. To the south, Tau is the communication hub with ferry connections to Stavanger and bus services to Hjelmeland and deeper into Ryfylke. About 10 km south, JÃÂørpeland is the larges settlement with about 5000 souls. Following the road soutwards one passes Botne before entering into Forsand. To the east BjÃÂørhemsbygd is a thriving agricultural site.
Social
Strand experienced a strong influx of newcomers from Stavanger and JÃÂæren starting in the late seventies. The original social fabric was divided into factory workers at the iron mill, farmers and the strong lutheran tradition. The divides were in many ways exclusive and only limited movement between the social groups were seen. The later years these divides has become significantly weaker.
