Stoneware
Stoneware is a ceramic, used for making pottery. It is similar to earthenware, but the defining characteristic is that stoneware fires to give a non-porous, vitrified solid, while earthenware firing temperatures give a porous solid. Stoneware tends to be fired at higher temperatures than either earthenware or porcelain, and is normally denser and stronger than either. The clays used in stoneware and earthenware are generally similar, composed of clays of various sorts mixed with other materials ie sand, feldspar etc.
