Statistics Canada is the Canadian federal government bureau commissioned with gathering and analysing statistics about Canada. The bureau is commonly called StatsCan.

Statistics is a federal responsibility in Canada and StatsCan produces statistics for all the provinces as well as the federal government.

Among other responsibilities, StatsCan undertakes a country-wide census every five years on the first and sixth year of each decade. The last Canadian census was in 2001; the next one will be in 2006.
