Saint Stanislaus of Cracow (1030-1079) was a nobleman in Poland who served as bishop of Kraków, one of Poland's most important cities. His original name was Stanislaus Szczepanowsky. Born in Cracow, he was educated in Paris France. As bishop, he excomunicated King Boleslaus the Cruel in 1079, and was killed while celebrating mass, by order of Boleslaus. Stanislaus is widely considered to be a martyr, and he was cannonized in 1253. His feast day is April 11.
