Located in front of Sproul Hall, Upper Sproul Plaza's location in front of the administration building of UC Berkeley makes it the primary place of on-campus protesting, most famously the site of the Free Speech Movement protests. During calmer times student groups will set up tables for recruitment on the plaza.

Lower Sproul Plaza is surrounded by the ASUC buildings Eshleman Hall and Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Union and other student services is the center of campus life, with concerts and other events.
