Spring break is an academic or college ritual, a break from studying, in the early spring. Depending on the culture involved, it may involve traveling to other nations or states, unusual behavior, increased drinking, or public nudity.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida used to be a notorious spring break destination. Residents of the area became upset with the damage done during the season, however, that they passed laws that made partying harder. Partygoers started attending the much more liberal Daytona Beach for spring break. Ft. Lauderdale suffered an enormous recession as a result of the self-imposed boycott. The Ft. Lauderdale hotel industry survived by starting to cater to the retired population.
