South Jutland County (Danish: SÃÂønderjyllands Amt) is a county in southern Denmark, on the peninsula of Jutland.
Northern Schleswig (Nordschleswig) is the German language name on South Jutland, the geographical area covering the southernmost 30 kilometers of the Jutland Peninsula. The area has formerly been a part of the Duchy of Schleswig (also called SÃÂønderjylland in Danish), that was annexed to Prussia after the Second War of Schleswig (1864), but ceded to Denmark after a plebiscite in 1920.
Today an ethnic German minority lives in South Jutland.
The major towns are SÃÂønderborg, Padborg, TÃÂønder, Aabenraa and Haderslev.
