Social Distortion
Social Distortion is the name of a popular punk band. While perhaps not being awarded the same level of respect as other punk bands like The Circle Jerks and Black Flag, it has nonetheless had lasting power. From their earlier, more hardcore punk songs like "1945" to later songs such as "Bad Luck" (which was featured on MTV), this band has shown consistently solid musical skills.Social Distortion formed in 1978 as part of the burgeoning punk scene of Orange County, CA. A popular local draw, they issued a number of singles that were later collected on the Mainliner (Wreckage from the Past) album. Their debut album, Mommy's Little Monster, was released in 1983 and is still hailed as a landmark of early SoCal punk.
In the time between Mommy's Little Monster and 1988's Prison Bound, Social Distortion endured long run of hardship. Band leader Mike Ness developed an addiction to heroin and spent those years working through his self-destructive tendencies.
The band signed to Epic Records in 1989 to record their major label debut, Social Distortion which was released in 1990. It produced the perrennial favorite "Ball and Chain." Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, considered the band's finest moment to date, followed in 1992.
After a four-year hiatus, the band returned with White Light, White Heat, White Trash in 1996. The concert album Live at the Roxy appeared in 1998, after which Social Distortion went on break again while Ness pursued solo interests.
