Skippy is one of the first films nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, in 1931. It was written by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Don Marquis, Norman Z. McLeod and Sam Mintz from the comic strip by Percy Crosby, and directed by Norman Taurog.

The movie starred Jackie Cooper, Robert Coogan, Mitzi Green and Jackie Searl. Taurog won the Academy Award for Directing.
