Sefton is a metropolitan borough in Merseyside, North West England. It was formed from the former county boroughs of Bootle and Southport plus various smaller towns in 1973.
It is named after the village and parish of Sefton, near Maghull.
The Bootle area is based around the docks and associated industries. Crosby is a residential area for Liverpool commuters, as are Formby and Maghull. Southport is a seaside resort and commuter town.
