Synonyms and common names

Lamiales is often used in place of Scrophuliariales. Both Lamiaceae and Scrophulariaceae are now placed within this order by cladistically-oriented taxonomists, so either name may be used. However, in cladistic nomenclature, the Lamioid clade is a more basal clade than the Scrophularioid clade, and for this reason, cladistically-oriented taxonomists prefer the Lamiales name.
