Sandown is a seaside resort town on the east coast of the Isle of Wight, England, neighbouring Shanklin to the south.

Natural interests

It is most notable for its chalk cliffs where a number of unusual ant species live, including the semi-myrmecophillous Solenopsis fugax (Latr.), which was recorded there several times by Horace Donisthorpe.

Ponera coartata has also been taken from this location.
