Warning: Plot details follow.

The Sailor Starlights were introduced in the final story arc of Sailor Moon. In the manga, the all-female trio, known as the "Three Lights", or San Hikari in Japanese, adopt human identities as male pop stars, but in the anime they were changed into men, who become women when transformed. Sailor Moon's creator and manga artist Naoko Takeuchi was famously annoyed at the change and found it to be a cheap subversion of her explicit rule that only women could become 'Sailor Senshi.'

Their full titles are "Sailor Starfighter" (darkhaired), "Sailor Starhealer" (greyhaired), and "Sailor Starmaker" (brownhaired), likely references to the gods Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma in Hinduism. They are most (in)famous for their bizarre uniforms, a leather-looking vinyl haltertop-and-hotpants combo.

Although poorly thought out English, or what is commonly referred to by fans as Engrish, is famously used in anime, Sailor Starmaker's attack phrase ("Star Gentle Uterus") is a classic example. However objectively appropriate it may be, many fans agree it is one of the stupider name choices by the creator.
