Sabine River

The Sabine River begins in Northeast Texas and flows into the Gulf of Mexico. The largest city on the river is the city of Longview, Texas. It also serves as a state line boundary between Texas and Louisiana.

Where it meets the Neches River, the confluence of the two forms the fourteen mile long Sabine Lake, which drains through Sabine Pass into the Gulf of Mexico. Other bodies of water on the Sabine River include Lake Tawakoni, and the Toledo Bend Reservoir.

During the American Civil War on September 8, 1863, the Second Battle of Sabine Pass was fought at the mouth of the Sabine. In the battle, a small Confederate force thwarted a Union invasion of Texas.
