Russian is an inflected language.

In Russian there is no indefinite or definite article.

Nouns and Adjectives

All adjectives must agree with the noun it describes in number, case and gender. All nouns are either feminine, masculine, or neuter. Genders are grammatical, and do not necessarily correspond to the sex of the object.

On the noun tables there are usually 6 declensions:

;Nominative:Used to show the subject of the sentence: Tanya is a girl.

;Accusative:Used to show a direct object: Tanya loves Yuri.

;Genitive:Used to show posession (most of the time): The hair of Tanya is long.

;Dative:Used to show an indirect object: Tanya gave the book to Yuri.

;Instrumental:Used to show an object used as an instrument: Tanya writes with a pen.

;Prepositional:Used to show a preposition: Tanya lives in the house.
