The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (usually referred to simply as RMIT), is a university in Melbourne, Australia. It's main campus is located in the city's central business district.

Founded by Francis Ormond in 1887 as the Working Men’s College, and renamed Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1960, RMIT was given formal university status in 1992. By the end of its inaugural year, 900 students were enrolled; in 2002 this number was 57,243.

As well as several Victorian campuses, RMIT has an international campus in Vietnam.
