Ross-shire

Ross-shire is a traditional county in Scotland, bordering Sutherlandshire, Cromartyshire (of which it contains many enclaves) ,Inverness-shire and on an exclave of Nairnshire. The county contains the northern part of the island of Lewis.

In 1889 the area, along with that of Cromartyshire, also became part of the newly-formed administrative county of Ross and Cromarty.

The county town is Dingwall. The name is still used for geographic and cultural purposes, and there is a Ross-shire Journal that covers the area.
