Rod Stewart

Time you got around to sponsoring a child

Rod Stewart (born January 10, 1945) is an English singer from Scottish descent.

Born in London, he was an extremely talented but largely unknown British folk rock singer during the 1960s. He sang in different bands, like Shotgun Express, Steampacket, Long John Baldry and Alexis Corner, one of his first meaningful recordings was when he played a steaming mouthharp on the number one hit by Milly Small, My Boy Lollypop. In 1967, he joined the original Jeff Beck Group with guitar virtuoso Jeff Beck on lead as well as bassist Ron Wood and drummer Aynsley Dunsbar.

In 1971, Stewart left the Jeff Beck Group after already having done some work with The Faces. Stewart's 1971 solo album Every Picture Tells a Story made him a household name, and when the B-side "Maggie May" started receiving radio play, the album and the single hit #1 in both the U.S. and the UK,something witch nobody had done before, or after for that matter. The Faces (with Stewart) also got their only U.S. top ten hit with "Stay With Me". The Faces where seen as the only band that could challenge The Rolling Stones in terms off live performences. They where even seen as the rougher rock and roll band. They where a treat to the Stones and from the beginning Keith Richards tried to buy Ron Wood away from The Faces (and succeeded in 1975).

From 69' to 74' Rod Stewart was criticaly acclaimed and, at least for 5 years said to be the greatest rock singer off all time. The volume of work he delivered then was enormous, Truth and Ola with the Jeff Beck Group, First Step, Long Player, A Nod's As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse and Ooh La La with the Faces as well as solos An Old Raincoat, Gasoline Aley, Every Picture Tell's A Story, Never A Dull Moment and Smiler. Also, he put out recording under the alias Phyton Lee Jackson.

Later in his career 1970s, Stewart began to produce more pop-oriented music. He recorded Foolish Behaviour and Hot Legs, and got another #1 hit with 1978's "Do You Think I'm Sexy?" After a slump during the early 1980s, Stewart started spending less time recording music and playing the role of famous rock star and scooping mony by the billions. In 1993, he recorded the hit song "All For Love" with Sting and Bryan Adams for the soundtrack to the movie The Three Musketeers.

A musical featuring many of Stewart's songs opened November 7, 2003 at London's Victoria Palace theatre. It is written and directed by Ben Elton, who previously created a similar production, We Will Rock You, with music by Queen.

Rod and Ron are still friends and say they are collaborating on an album. The working title is You'l Struth, I'll Sing and will be a back to the roots collage off songs written by Rod Stewart/Ron Wood.

Stewart has been known for his liasons with attractive women, including Britt Ekland and was later married to Alana Hamilton and Rachel Hunter. He fathered six children. He was quoted as saying that he'd rather have his penis cut off than cheat on her. He was later sued for divorce on the grounds of adultery.

On May 25 Rhino Records releases a box set of four cd's with work from the Faces, called, Five Guys Went In To A Bar.
