Rochefort is a city of western France, a seaport on the Atlantic Ocean. It is a sous-préfecture of the Charente-Maritime département.

Its military harbour has been fortified by Vauban.

The town has gained some fame with Jacques Demy's movie Les demoiselles de Rochefort.

Rochefort was the birthplace of Pierre Loti. His house has been turned into a museum.
