History

Python 5 was announced at the 2003 Paris air show. It is based on the existing Rafael Python 4, using the same airframe, rocket motor, proximity fuze and warhead. The guidance system is new.

Python 5 is expected to be in service with the Israeli Air Force in 2005.

Notes

Includes a "full sphere capability", meaning it can be launched at a target irrespective of the target's location relative to the direction of the launching aircraft. It can lock on to the target after launch. The guidance system can lock on to a target 100 degrees off boresight.
