Rabirius

Rabirius was a member of the equites order in ancient Rome who lent a very large sum of money to Ptolemy Auletes (Ptolemy XI) (80-58 BC), king of Egypt. Afterward, Ptolemy XI refused to repay the money and had Rabirius imprisoned. When Auletes threatened Rabirius's life, the latter escaped to Rome, where he was accused of accused by the Senate of Rome of lending money to an African prince for unlawful purposes. He was defended by Cicero and acquitted.
