Potawatomi

The Potawatomi are a Native American people of the upper Mississippi River region.

The Potawatomi were part of a long term alliance with the Ottawa and Ojibwe, called the Council of Three Fires and which fought with the Iroquois Confederacy and the Sioux.

There are several bands of Potawatomi:

• Citizen Potawatomi nation, Oklahoma
• Forest County Potawatomi community, Wisconsin
• Gun Lake tribe, Michigan
• Hannahville Indian community, Michigan
• Pokagon Band, Michigan and Indiana
• Prairie Band, Kansas
• Stoney Point and Kettle Point bands, Canada
• Walpole Island band; lives an unceded island between the United States and Canada
