Philip D. Zelikow

Philip Zelikow is best known as the executive director of the 9/11 Commission. He also also acts as the director of the Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia.

Zelikow has previously served in the United States Navy, the State Department, and the United States National Security Council. He has taught at both Harvard and the University of Virginia. He also served as executive director of the National Commission on Federal Election Reform.

Philip Zelikow wrote the book Germany Unified and Europe Transformed with Condoleezza Rice, with whom he has maintained a close relationship. This has led some to question his impartiality as executive director of the 9/11 Commission, which is investigating Dr. Rice. Both the 9/11 Family Steering Committee and 9-11 Citizens Watch have demanded his resignation, but Mr. Zelikow is very unlikely to resign at this time.
