Peripheral neuropathy: Damage to peripheral nerves either caused by diseases of the nerve or from the side effects of systemic illness.


Causes

Major causes of peripheral neuropathy include
diabetes, nutritional deficiencies, and HIV with diabetes being the most likely cause of Peripheral Neuropathy. Also mechanical pressure from staying in one position for too long, a tumor, intraneural hemorrhage, exposing the body to extreme conditions such as radiation, cold temperatures, and/or toxic substances can also cause peripheral neuropathy.

Symptoms

Symptoms include extreme pain to the affected area followed by numbness, and eventually complete lack of control of the affected area.
