Oppland
Oppland is a county in Norway, bordering SÃÂør-TrÃÂøndelag, MÃÂøre og Romsdal, Sogn og Fjordane, Buskerud, Akershus, Oslo and Hedmark. In 2002 there were 183,235 inhabitants, which is 4.0% of the total population in Norway. Its area is 25,191 km². The county administration is in Lillehammer.Oppland extends from the lakes MjÃÂøsa and Randsfjorden to the mountains Dovrefjell, Jotunheimen and Rondane. The county includes the geographic districts Gudbrandsdalen, Valdres, Toten, Hadeland and Land.
A lot of museums and other attractions are situated here. Tourism is important to the economy; Valdres and Gudbrandsdalen being popular attractions. Gudbrandsdalen includes the villages Otta, Dovre and DombÃÂÃÂ¥s, and the river GudbrandsdalslÃÂÃÂ¥gen. Here the scottish army attacked in 1612. Valdres includes Fagernes and BeitostÃÂølen, and the area down to Bagn at Begna river. It is a well known place for skiing and winter sports. Oppland includes the cities Lillehammer and GjÃÂøvik, and Norway's two highest mountains, Glittertind and GaldhÃÂøpiggen.
