Operation Ajax
Operation Ajax (1953) was a Anglo-American covert operation to overthrow Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadeq in response to his nationalization of the oil industry which was operated by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. American President Dwight D. Eisenhower had also accused him of being a Communist.This was the first time the CIA had ever overthrown a democratically elected government.
The leader of the operation was Kermit Roosevelt, a senior CIA agent, and grandson of the former President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt.
