Lieutenant General Omar Hasan Ahmad al-Bashir (born January 1, 1944) is the president of Sudan.

He seized power in a military coup d'etat on June 30, 1989, as the head of the Revolutionary Command Council for National Salvation. He became president on October 16, 1993 and was elected as president for five years in 1996.
