Northamptonshire is a county in central England with a population of 629,676 (2001 census). It has borders with Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Peterborough, Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire. The name can be abbreviated to "Northants", and the county town is Northampton.
The Soke of Peterborough was historically associated with Northamptonshire.
